PELTZ: Leonard Francis Peltz, January 30, 1934 – February 24, 2014. Leonard Francis Peltz passed away at his home in Brandon, Manitoba on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the age of 80 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Edith, daughter Kimberley (Grant) and granddaughter Carley, daughter Jacqueline (Kenneth) and grandson Noah. Also surviving are his brother Ernie and sister in law Edna, eldest nephew and best buddy Jim Pelts and his wife Claudette, two generations of nieces and nephews and Theoren and Ted, who at a very young age adopted the Peltz’s as their second family. Len was born and raised in Minnedosa and, after leaving high school was employed as a telegrapher by the Canadian Pacific Railway for a number of years. It was at this time that he met and courted his wife Ede, a community health nurse in Minnedosa and they were married in 1956. Len enjoyed his railroad days but he also loved to learn. So as a new father to daughter Kim he returned to the classroom to complete his High School Diploma. Then it was on to Brandon College to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in both Arts and Education while working full time through the first 3 years of his program. These were busy but happy times. After graduation Len accepted a teaching position for the Brandon School Division and then shortly after returned to Brandon College as Registrar for several years. 1966 brought with it second daughter Jackie and in 1969 the family moved to Russell MB, in part to pursue a business career but mostly to return to the small town lifestyle Len and Ede embraced. Given our family’s interests it was a good choice. Len joined the staff at Major Pratt Collegiate where he thoroughly enjoyed his teaching career and was pleased to share his love of literature with many of his students. He had an abiding love of sports and all competitive activities and despite being rhythmically challenged (by his own admission) he shared Ede’s passion for dancing and Kim and Jackie’s joy in song. Looking back Len highlighted his happiest memories as the summers full of family time together, sharing cultural and holiday meals with friends and family, golfing with a group that shared his passion for the game and many afternoons of bridge and laughter. These precious times and many more are cherished gifts of memory. At Len’s request his body has been donated to the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Manitoba. There will be no funeral. A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of choice or: Russell and District Regional Library, 339 Main St. North, Russell, MB R0J 1W0; Russell and District Palliative Care Program, Russell Health Centre,Russell, MB.
