VEALE: It is with sadness the family of Jack Edwin Veale announces his passing on February 1, 2014 at the Neepawa and District Hospital. Jack Edwin Veale was born July 14, 1926 in Neepawa, MB, son of Richmond Veale and Esther Crabbe. Jack was raised on the farm of his grandfather, Sam Crabbe, when his parents separated. He attended Stoney Creek School from grades 1 – 8 and then the Neepawa Collegiate. At the age of 18 he joined the RCNVR in 1944 and after training in Winnipeg he was sent to Halifax where he was assigned to serve on a Corvette HMCS Cobalt. He enjoyed his service in the Navy and was discharged in 1946. In 1947 Jack married Lorna Eamer. In 1949 Jack was hired to work in the Neepawa Land Titles office retiring after 33 years of service. Jack enjoyed golf as a young person but curling was a bigger favorite and he enjoyed the sport until 2000. He served as President of the Neepawa Curling Club on two occasions. Jack was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23 for 65 years and recently received his 65 year pin at the Legion’s annual banquet. In 1962 he and his family were involved in a motor vehicle accident which took the life of one of his daughters and the rest of the family was badly injured. Travel became a priority for Jack. He travelled Canada from coast to coast and much of the USA. He and his wife Lorna travelled to Hawaii, Barbados and three trips to Europe included their favorite, a Mediterranean 14 day cruise that visited seven countries and many side trips including the Isle of Capri, Rome and the Vatican, and Monaco. Jack is survived by his wife Lorna, daughter Stacey, three grandchildren, Cheryl Ernest and her husband Darren, Kerri Williams and Kevin Brown, 3 Great Grandchildren Neil & Michelle Ernest, and Jennifer Williams, half-sister Marilyn and husband Ray Iwanick. He was predeceased by his father Richmond Veale a Wpg Grenadiers veteran, his mother Esther Crabbe, daughter Shannon Denise Veale, mother and father in law Eva and Gordon Eamer, brother in law and close friend Al Truelove. In keeping with Jack’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Dr. Ong, and the nurses at the Neepawa Hospital for the excellent care Jack received while a patient there. A thank you also to Dr. White and our friends and family who were there to help and support our family at this difficult time.
