VEREY: Peacefully, February 17, 2014, Violet Gladys Verey (nee Shorland), passed away with her family, at Park Manor in Winnipeg, MB. Born December 14, 1922 to Charles and Esther Shorland of Grandview MB, Violet was the youngest of six children. While working at the Grandview Hotel Violet met Wilfred Graham Verey. They married June 30, 1947. This devoted couple had two daughters, Barbara and Kathleen. Graham’s work took them to Regina where they remained until 1975 when they returned to Brandon, MB. Violet’s career centered in retail service where she took great care and pride serving customers working for Eaton’s Ladies wear in Regina and later in Brandon. Violet also managed The Wool Grower’s Wool Shop in Regina for 6 years. Throughout her lifetime, Violet was a member of the United Church of Canada and in Brandon, she and Graham were very active in the Couple’s Club. They also enjoyed summertime at the lake cottage and traveled extensively in western Canada and the northern United States, as well as trips to Europe and California. In 1995, Violet and Graham moved to Selkirk MB. Graham passed away December 30, 1996 and Vi continued to live in Selkirk until 2009 when she moved to Winnipeg. Violet was predeceased by husband and life-mate W. Graham Verey, brothers Fred, Ted, Harry, George, and sister, Mary. She is survived by daughter Barbara Wells (Rick), grandson Ronald , granddaughter Debra Thiessen (Michael), great grandchildren Savannah and Skyler; daughter Kathy Gudnason, granddaughter Andrea Lopez, great grandson Rio , grandson Jared Gudnason (Lisa) and great grandchildren Kailie, Kaden and Kyler and sister-in-law Evelyn Shorland. The family would like to thank the staff at Park Manor for their love and care of Violet. A Memorial Service will be held for Violet on March 13th, at 2:00 p.m. at Park Manor, 301 Redonda Street, Transcona, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Violet’s name to: Park Manor PCH Recreation Department, 301 Redonda St. Winnipeg, R2C 1L7.
