SCOTT: Elizabeth (Beth) W. Scott (Bland). Beth passed away on March 6, 2014 at the age of 94. She had been living at Fairview Home for less than one year at the time of her death. She is survived by her son Elliott, daughter-in-law Kathy and grandchildren Kristina, Brendan and Jordan and her sister Ruth and brother- in-law Lin. Beth was born in Brandon on December 18, 1919 and lived her whole life here. Her mother Winnie was an early English settler to Saskatchewan having arrived there at about 14 years of age prior to moving to Brandon. Her father Arthur was an engineer with the CPR. Beth and her mother were very active members of St. Mary’s Anglican Church where they both sang in the choir and Beth directed the Junior Choir. She also played the organ frequently and sang in the Western Manitoba Philharmonic Choir. She also participated in the Girl Guides with her dear friend Beth worked at the law offices of Meighen and Ccompany for many years and it was here that she met Gordon Scott. They married in 1949 and had one son, Elliott. During her many years at the Law office she regularly took shorthand notes at court due to her skill at both Gregg and Pitman methods. Every evening she was at the typewriter transcribing her shorthand notes for the lawyers in the office. After leaving the law office Beth moved to Earl Haig School and worked in the school office as secretary to the principal until 1985 when she took full Beth had several enjoyable trips back to England to visit relatives of her mother and father still living there. She had many hobbies and was constantly sewing her own clothes, which she did very well. She also played piano and organ and sang for many years. In her younger years she and good friend Edith Hayden recorded a 78rpm record together, although it didn’t make the top 10! Beth, Gordon and Elliott made yearly trips to Denver Colorado to visit with Gordon’s mother, sister Pearl and cousins Cheryl and Karen where we all had many memorable experiences and where relatives still live. Beth had a very good life even after Gordon passed away in 1977, living on her own for another 37 years with hardly a day of illness. In fact when she was asked in the hospital if she had ever had an operation, she replied that “yes she had her tonsils out in 1925 on the dining room table”. A remarkably long, healthy and fulfilling life. Cremation has taken place and remembrance service will be planned fo late April or May at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
