STRAHL: Garnet Wayne Strahl 1933 - 2014. Garnie passed away on April 2, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Garnie was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on May 9, 1933 to the late Ernest and Hilda Strahl. He married Marja Visser in 1982 and they lived in the lower mainland until Garnie’s retirement as Superintendent of Air Control for the Pacific Region in 1988. They moved to Logan Lake in 1989 before settling in Enderby in 1996. Garnie joined the RCAF in 1952 and was honourably discharged in September 1960. This was followed by a long career in air traffic control serving in many centres around the country and eventually becoming the Chief of ATC at Vancouver International Airport. In addition to his regular duties he was asked by the Federal Department of Transport to also act as its Liaison with the Vatican for the Pope’s visit to B.C. in 1984; followed by becoming the Federal Coordinator for Expo 86. During his retirement Garnie was an active member of the community and was well known throughout Enderby for his endless energy and ability to help whenever and wherever help was needed. He will be missed by his loving wife, Marja, his four children, six grandchildren, and his two sisters. Memorial services will be held later in the year.
