WITTEVRONGEL: Marguerite Maria Wittevrongel (Lombaert) (nee De Wiele). Passed away at the Assiniboine Centre at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at the age of 89 years, Marguerite Maria Wittevrongel (Lombaert) (nee De Wiele) of Brandon formerly of Treherne, MB. Funeral services were held April 8, 2014 at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Swan Lake, MB, with Father Chris Nwosu as Celebrant. Marguerite will be sadly missed by her loving children, sons Jerry Lombaert and Donald Lombaert both of Brandon, daughters Mona Campbell of Winnipeg and Anita Rhodes (Bob Armitage) of Armstrong, B.C., daughter-in-law Marlene Lombaert of Brandon, step-children Sharon (Bruce) Evans of Hartney and Shirley (Tom) Isford of Treherne; grandchildren Kim (Randy) Mowat, Carrie (Bob) Bardeck, Craig Lombaert, Ashley (Tony) Commer, Vanessa Lombaert, Jamie (Leah) Lombaert, Jodi (Julien) Lafleche, Ryan Campbell; step-grandchildren Darwin (Sharon) Evans, Keith Evans, Trisha Evans, Kim (Fernando) Magalhaes, Kristjan Isford, Keri Isford as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Marguerite is also survived by her sisters Simone (Earle) Peterson and sister-in-law Marion De Wiele. She was predeceased by her first husband Oscar Lombaert and second husband Maurice Wittevrongel, sons Larry and George Lombaert, grandson Chad Campbell, parents Joseph and Palmyre De Wiele, brothers Victor and Maurice and by sister Madelene De Wiele. Marguerite was born May 10th, 1924. She completed schooling to grade VIII at Swan Lake. She completed grades IX and X by correspondence and this was followed by working for 4 years at the St Boniface hospital in Winnipeg as a nurses aide. After marrying her first husband, Oscar Lombaert, she worked at the hotel in Swan Lake for a year and then completed hairdressing training in Winnipeg. She opened a hairdressing shop in Swan Lake in 1945 which did very well. After Oscar returned from overseas their first sons, George and Jerry were born in Swan Lake. As Oscar was a carpenter they moved to Winnipeg for his work and their sons, Larry and Donald were born in Winnipeg. They were there during the 1950 flood and were evacuated, then moved to the farm near Swan Lake in 1951. Daughters, Mona and Anita were born in Swan Lake while they lived on the farm. In 1963 the family moved to Brandon, MB where Marguerite worked as a nurses aide at the Brandon Mental Hospital, completed Occupational training, and was team supervisor for the last 9 years in the OTU, retiring in 1985. In 1979 Marguerite married Maurice Wittevrongel. They remained in Brandon another 5 years until her retirement then moved to Treherne. Marguerite enjoyed her new life in Treherne, becoming active in the community, including being President of the Friendship Centre for 8 years; member of the Rebekah Lodge, member of CWL, social events with friends to mention a few. Mom and Maurice did some travelling including a trip to Hawaii and a trip to Belgium and France, visiting their roots. Marguerite was very proud of her large family. She took pride in their accomplishments and enjoyed hosting and attending many family events. She made it a point to acknowledge every birthday and attend the many graduations and celebrations. She was very talented at crafts, loved gardening and flowers. Special thanks to Dr. Tissera and the staff at Brandon General and Assiniboine Centre for their care and compassion. Also, to the many family and friends for all the companionship and assistance provided to mom over the years.
