ARMSTRONG: Ethel Armstrong nee Carter-Squire, passed away peacefully at the age of 99 1/2 yrs old. She leaves behind daughters Marilyn (George), children Karen and Warren, Janet (Paul) children Vanessa and Danny. Plus an additional eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and five great- great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband Bob. Her parents Joseph and Bertha, brothers Jack and Ken as well as son Robert, daughters Marjorie and Betty. Mum was born Sept 14,1914 in Boissevain right next door to where she lived for so many years. She spent her childhood on the family farm northeast of town. She married Robert Campbell Armstrong in 1932 in Boissevain. They celebrated 50 years of marriage the same year as their youngest daughter was married. They lived in at Boissevain, Deloraine and Ninette for a time before they moved the original "3", Bobbie, Marj and Betty to southern Ontario where they lived in a variety of communities. Marilyn and Janet were born down east before returning back to Boissevain in 64. She was a skilled seamstress, it was her passion. She took pride in sewing for her family. She would do sewing jobs for the public as well as being employed by Pringles Mens Wear for a number of years. We could find Mum in her flower garden in her spare time. She would always have fresh cut flowers for the table every summer. In the cooler weather she kept busy knitting, crocheting or with a crossword puzzle all the while keeping an eye on the baseball game or curling. Even in her last days she was working on a project. If weather permitted she loved to take in the occasional local hockey game. She also was a long time Legion member. She was able to stay in her own home until she was 95 when she moved to Westview Lodge. Mum was a quiet women, lead a quiet life. She enjoyed her solitude but always loved to visit with family and friends.
