OBEDNIAK: Evelyn Gael Obedniak June 19, 1962 - December 19, 2013. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Evelyn (Evie) Gael Obedniak of Prince George, B.C. Evie passed away peacefully at the Rotary Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at the age of 51, after a courageous battle with cancer. Evie is the youngest daughter born to Thomas and Sylvia Obedniak. She grew up on a farm with her three older sisters (Malveen, Darlene & Connie) in the Rossburn area. She loved the farm and enjoyed helping her dad (Tato) with farm chores. After graduating from high school, she was enrolled at Brandon University. Upon completing her studies in Brandon, she decided to venture out to Prince George, B.C., where her sister Darlene was living with her husband Bob and daughter Kelly. Evie had several different jobs, and eventually obtained a position as a social worker for the B.C. government. As fate would have it, Renato Mauro worked in the same building as Evie. Renato and Evie were married April 18, 1992 in Jasper, Alberta and went on to live a beautiful life together. They were best friends and have a lovely home that Evie loved to decorate with reupholstered and antique furniture. Early in their marriage they adopted Max, a cranky terrier, who became Evies best friend. Evie was diagnosed with cancer in October 2011. She fought hard through her illness, never complained and even became friends with the nurses whom she saw regularly during her treatments. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her beloved husband, Renato Mauro, her mother Sylvia Obedniak, her sisters Malveen Austin (Jennifer, Andrew and Tommy Seitz, Kevin and Hayli, Jillian and Kirk); Darlene Tanasychuk (Bob, Kelly and Peter) and Connie (Ted) Speirs. Evie is also survived by father-in-law Alfredo Mauro, sisters-in-law Agata Dal Colletto and Franca Best, brothers-in-law Gaetano Mauro and Fausto Mauro and their families. She was predeceased by her father Thomas Obedniak, brother-in-law Bruce Austin and mother-in-law Maria Mauro. Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cathedral with Father Pier Pandolfo officiating. Pallbearers were Dwayne Prokopowich, Michael Mauro, Fabio Dal Colletto, Rico Dal Colletto, Kevin Austin, and Matthew Treger. Interment was in Prince George Memorial Park Cemetery, Assmans Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince George Rotary Hospice House or the B.C. Cancer Agency. An Angel Walks Beside UsEach one of us receives an angel guardian at birthwho walks along beside us every day we spend on earth.Invisible, these angels never leave us day or night. They know our fears and whisper, Things are going to be all right. They give us strength and purpose, keep our hope and courage strong. They fill our minds with wisdom and our spirits with a song.Rest in peace our dear Evie, our angel in heaven.
