McDOUGALL: Angus William McDougall was born on January 12, 1929 in Killarney, MB. He and his older brother Mac lived with their mother and grandparents on the family farm near Dunrea, MB. Angus went to school nearby and after a short scholastic jo urney he returned to work on the farm. He left home at age 18 years to work in mining, off and on for several years in BC, Ontario, and Northern MB. He returned home to attend his brother's wedding where he met the sister of the bride, Isabell. Angus and Isabell were married on November 26, 1955 and shared 51 years together. Angus and Isabell lived in Killarney in their early years together and had three children: Dennis, Gary and Carolyn. Angus worked for the RM of Turtle Mountain in the summer months and then went north in the winters to haul freight across the frozen lakes. Angus also worked constructing the number 1 highway. In 1967, Angus got a full-time job with the RM of Elton and they moved to Brandon to the same home he lived in for 45 years. Angus enjoyed 27 years working for the RM of Elton and he retired in 1994. Angus’ new daily routine when he retired was meeting his buddies at the Shoppers Mall twice a day for coffee. Occasionally, he went on to the Army & Navy. He came home for supper and spent the evening with Isabell playing cards; they played every night. Angus would fall asleep while they were playing sometimes and his cards would droop, so Isabell won more often than what was probable, at least in his opinion. After they retired, Angus and Isabell travelled, visiting family and sightseeing. Angus always had an extreme fondness for his grandkids. When the boys were preschoolers, they often went on the "rounds" with grandpa which included garage sales and playing pool at the Army and Navy. School was close to Grandpa’s house so the boys went for lunch on a daily basis. Grandpa always insisted on driving them the block and a half back to school. Angus was recovering from a broken hip in Rivers Hospital at the time Isabel’s untimely death in 2007. He never really stopped wishing he could have been with her. After Isabell's death, Angus lived in their home until July 2012 when it became clear that he needed to be in a place where there was more care. He moved into Fairview Personal Care Home and soon became a favourite of the staff there. Angus kept a light heart and never really stopped trying to be as independent as possible. He died after a brief illness at the age of 85 on Thursday, April 3, 2014. Angus is survived by his children: Dennis of Brandon, Gary (Maureen) of Brandon, and Carolyn (Bruce) Park of MacGregor. His grandchildren: Tyler, Blake and Blaine Park. Angus was predeceased by his mother Christina, wife Isabell, and brother Malcom "Mac". The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Rev. Barbara Jardine officiated. Interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery.
