GWYER: Winnifred Catherine Gwyer (nee Bartram). After a long and full life, Winnifred peacefully passed away on April 25, 2014 at Sunnyside Manor in Birtle, at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, brothers David (Nellie), Charlie (Helen), and Ted, and sisters Ruby (Richard), Jennie (George) and Mae (Bob) and brother-in-law Ken. Winnie will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert (Anne) and daughters Marjorie and Shirley (Clare). Also her grandchildren Catherine (Jason), Bill (Karen), Greg (Kim), and Cheryl (Jay) and great grandchildren Zachary, Zane, Jackson and Liam. She also leaves to mourn her passing, sister Doris and brother Jack (Marie), sister-in-law Elsie, plus many nieces and nephews. Winnie was born and raised on the Bartram family farm near Angusville. She attended school in Angusville and after Grade 9 left home for her first job. She worked for several different families in the area, helping with raising the children, housework and farm chores. She met her husband Bill in the area, and they were married for 61 years. Their married life was spent in the St. Lazare and Birtle districts. After retiring from the farm, they moved to a house in Birtle. After Bills passing, Winnie moved to Pioneer Lodge and then Sunnyside where she spent her final years. Winnie was very active in community activities. She volunteered for the 4-H Club (17 years), Birtle Agriculture Society, United Church Women, New Horizons and Hospital Auxiliary. Winnie enjoyed many hobbies. Her sewing, quilting and knitting won her many prizes at the local fairs. Family and friends were important to Winnie. She enjoyed visits with neighbors, maintained a close relationship with her brothers and sisters and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and neighbors and remembered as a thoughtful and helpful member of the community. The funeral service will be held at the Birtle United Church on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Linda Clark officiating. Interment to follow in the Birtle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
