LEVEN: Erich was born to Franz and Maria Leven of Hitdorf, Leverkusen Germany. He grew up and went to school in the same town. He worked with his uncle since he was 14 years old and showed his passion for semis. He married in 1956 to Jutta Gundermann and raised three children, Horst, Paul and Anne. In 1967 they took over his uncle's trucking company and bought two more semi's, also started international transports. In 1979 they sold the company and moved to Dropmore, MB, Canada, where they farmed for 12 years. They moved to Roblin, MB in 1991 and worked at their restaurant, which they had bought in 1981. Erich and Jutta lived in Binscarth, Russell and then moved to Brandon, MB in 2003. He was well known for his delicious home made wine, enjoyed his wood work, the shuffling with his friends all summer long at the Riverview curling rink, and of course having coffee with his German buddies...... every Saturday morning. He looked forward to every Monday to cut his lawn on the riding mower, then having a big bowl of ice cream afterwards. He loved his wife and children, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him. He spent a lot of time with them and taught them among other things, how to speak and play German rummy. He loved to go fishing, and watch the trains go by in the distance from their home ....and counted the cars. Erich was predeceased by his son Paul in 2003. He will be sadly missed by his wife Jutta, daughter Anne (Ubald) Deschambault, granddaughters Yvonne (Jeremy), Denise (Ryan), Michelle (Curtis); son Horst (Gabi) and family, and all nine great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, Brandon with Father Kevin Smith officiating. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service, Russell, Manitoba were in care of arrangements. (204) 773-2747.
