GUTHRIE: Muriel Irene Guthrie. Muriel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Willowview Personal Care Home in Reston. Muriels parents immigrated from Scotland in 1912 and settled in Reston when Muriel was born in 1926. She was the youngest of 4 daughters; mother Helen Kay was a midwife and dad Scotty John Kay was manager and worker at the CPR roundhouse. Muriel lived her life in Reston and spoke fondly of her school days, drama club, working at the local bakeshop, skating at the community rink and living through the war years of loss. She fell in love with Jack Guthrie and they were married 1944. She adapted well to farm life and pursued her many community activities in womens groups (Eastern Star; United Church), in childrens learning (4-H sewing teacher and figure skating organization) church and library boards, Agricultural Society and heritage committees. She is forever remembered by her children Kay (Bonnie), Gaylyn (Linda), Jacquie (Richard); grandchildren, John (Jackie), Sheldon (Andrea), Nicholas (Nichole), Jennifer, Rebecca, Craig (Monique), Corey, Steven (Heather), Jonathan: great- grandchildren Ethan, Ella, Jaxon, Jace, Madison, Elizabeth, Noah, Alexa, Jason, Ashley, Peyton, Kara, Jack, Chloe. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2011: sisters Hannah (Walter), Jessie (Mickey), Agnes (Ab): sisters- in-law Mora (John), Margaret (Bill) and her parents Helen and John Kay. Muriel held her childrens hands for awhile and she will hold our hearts forever. Our family thanks the community of support that surrounds us with words of comfort, cards, gifts of food and memories of Muriel at our time of loss of a mom, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Thank-you all.
