McPHERSON: Daniel Alexander Campbell McPherson of Carberry, Manitoba, passed away April 21, 2014 at the Carberry Hospital at the age of 65 years. Born June 13, 1948 in Wawota, Saskatchewan, Danny spent his early years in Saskatchewan before moving to Brandon with his family. He attended St. Augustine School, Harrison High, Brandon Collegiate and Brandon University. Excelling at many school sports Dannys real passion was hockey; playing minor hockey in Brandon, junior hockey with the Wheat Kings, then on to the Brandon University Bobcats and eventually professional hockey in Fort Worth, Denver and Winston Salem in the U.S. Danny married Peggy (nee Clive) in 1970 and they raised three daughters. After finishing his hockey career, Dan and Peggy returned to Brandon, then moved to the Wellwood area in 1981 and eventually settled close to Carberry. Danny enjoyed many jobs throughout his life; hockey player, salesman, photographer, business owner, bricklayer, farmhand and carpenter. After returning to university to complete his B.A. in 1988, Danny started working for the Cypress Planning District in Carberry and eventually moved to Brandon Area Planning until his retirement in 2013. Always community minded, Danny served on many boards and volunteer organizations; Beautiful Plains School Board, Carberry and Area Community Foundation, Manitoba Building Officials Association, Carberry Elks Lodge to name a few, as well as coaching hockey in Carberry. His hobbies were many and varied. He was a philosopher, a dreamer, a thinker who loved music, books and living in the country. He could spend many hours just tinkering. He was a dedicated family man whose grandchildren were his special joy. Danny was predeceased by his father and mother, Alex and Donelda McPherson and a younger brother William (Billy). He will be missed by his wife Peggy (Margaret), his three daughters, Raegan (Les) Taylor of Lloydminster, Morag (Sarah Olivier) of Yellowknife and Nova (Tim) Cassan of Carberry and his three grandchildren, Callyn and Dantyn Taylor and Esmé Cassan. He is also survived by his three older sisters, Donna (Don) Leech, Harlene (Ken Dyck) and Gerry (Gary) Walker and youngest brother David McPherson (Pat Clubb) of Winnipeg. Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. A Come and Go Celebration of Dannys life was held the afternoon of April 25, 2014 at the Carberry Legion. The family wishes to thank the many professionals and caregivers of CancerCare Winnipeg and Brandon and the Carberry Hospital for their care and support during his last two years.
