McQUEEN: Early in the morning of May 17, 2014, Dr. Ross C. McQueen, died peacefully in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, a day after his 78th birthday. Ross obtained his Medical Degree from Glasgow University, Scotland in 1959 and emigrated to Canada in 1963, where he joined a small group of Family Physicians in Brandon and was a founding member of the Western Medical Clinic. He became a well loved and respected Family Physician, working in all the fields of medicine, including the Outreach Cancer Care Unit, until his retirement in 1997. His great intellect, love of languages and reading, were balanced by his mischievous nature, generosity and love of cooking. He will be sadly missed by his cousins in Scotland, Alastair and Ian, by all those who worked with him in the years he practiced medicine and those that became his close friends; but especially by his partner Thomas Polovic and his German family. The past 13 years that Thomas has shared with Ross have been the happiest years of his life and he wishes to thank Helen, Robin, Gillian, neighbours and many others for the help and support they have given him at this time. Cremation has taken place. Tributes in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7 or to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
