MARTIN: Roy George Martin, age 60 years, died on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Roy was born to the late Roy and Eveline Martin, on June 9, 1953 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Roy lived in Shilo, Manitoba, until his father's retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces. When Roy was 15 years of age, his father relocated the family to Brandon in 1968. Roy remained in Brandon for the rest of his life. He attended Vincent Massey High School, and then went on to work for metal industries as a labourer. Roy Roy as he was called in his younger years by his family members, loved to hunt and fish. He looked forward to those hunting trips, even if it was at times, as they say to push the bush or listen to the peace and quietness. But, when it was a successful hunt with his brother Jack and nephews, Steven and Michael it made Roy the happiest, knowing that there was meat in the freezer for another year. His other love was fishing and if you ever saw Roy on the banks of the river, you would have also seen his nephew Andrew. Together they definitely made the best fishing buds. Roy is survived by his seven siblings, Larry (Lise) of Vanier, Ontario, Jim (Marna) of Calgary, AB, Jack (Linda) of Forrest, MB, Raymond (Darline) of Brandon, Marie (Ron) of Kamloops, BC, Penny (Dennis) of Elkford, BC and Rick (Deb) of Shilo. He is also survived by his long time special friend Gayle, and his many, many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents and his very memorable, Uncle George. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Lydia Glawson, Funeral Celebrant will officiate. Interment will take place at Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
