McCOLL:Harriet Elizabeth McColl (Rodger) died in Boissevain, MB, on May 27th, 2014, at the age of 98. Service and interment took place in Boissevain on June 4. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Ashcroft (late David), her son, Jamie (Leigh), granddaughter, Roxanne, and three great-grandchildren. Harriet was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, in 1916. Her formative years were spent in Nova Scotia, Toronto, Prince Edward Island, and Calgary. As a young adult she took Fashion Design at Central Tech in Toronto and studied art under Canadian painter Doris McCarthy. Harriet married Angus McColl in 1945, and together they began a life-long commitment to the church, which took them to several charges including the Manitoba towns of Arden, McCreary, Shoal Lake, and Boissevain. Harriet's love for and endless curiosity of the natural world began at a young age and remained a passion throughout her life. Her faith in God was manifested in all the miracles of nature - she viewed the first buds of spring, the smallest songbird, and the phases of the moon with awe and respect. Harriet possessed a quiet wisdom and a gentle, joyful soul with a remarkable gift for giving. She made those of us who knew her feel special. We will miss her.
