WHETTER:  Donalda Louise Whetter died June 12th, 2014 at Fairview Home in Brandon. Donalda was born January 2nd1919 in Cupar, Saskatchewan to Rebecca (Smith) and William Gee, the second of 6 children. She was a tiny baby and was not expected to live, but has lived for 95 ? mostly healthy years, never being hospitalized until her heart started to fail in the last few years. Donalda attended school in Cupar, completing Grade 12, then came to Manitoba to earn tuition for Teacher's College, working for Lindley Hodgson at Dand, Manitoba, in the Hartney district. Donalda fell in love that summer, so decided to stay in Manitoba , becoming Mrs. Jack Whetter. When their four children were young Donalda was a member of the WMS and the WI. Like many women of the time she spent much time cooking from scratch, gardening, and with sewing and mending. She started a 4-H club for girls at Dand and was a leader for several years. Later she became very involved in the Hartney Horticulture Society and took many ribbons for her flower arranging and was asked to judge at Hortcultural Shows in the area. She loved her rose and flower gardens and was happy to share the blossoms with others. In later years she started the Red Hat Society group in Hartney and looked forward to the lunchtime gatherings for fun and fellowship. Through that group she was nominated for the Women of Distinction Award in Brandon in 2013. As her health failed she moved into Riverheights Terrace in Brandon where she was very happy with her new friends and for the view to the west farm land which reminded her of her home at Dand. She kept her cheery personality as she met several fellow patients during her recent stays at the Brandon Hospital, Assiniboine Center and then at Fairview. Home. She appreciated the kindness and care of the staff. She is survived by her children: Gerald (Margaret) of Brandon, Darlene (Allan) Cox of Northfield Minnesota, Rodney (Lydia Glawson) of Brandon, Nancy (Jack) Almeida of Thompson, grandchildren: James Cox, Donald Cox, Shauna (Brian Hanson) Whetter, Jay (Jenny) Whetter, Jon (Tracey Salamondra) Whetter, Darren (Carlie)Whetter, David (Michelle) Whetter, Ian (Lisa Stepnuk) Whetter and Katherine Almeida. great grandchildren: Liam Whetter, CampbellWhetter, Jack Whetter, Nicola Whetter, Benjamin Cox, Gwenelen Hanson, Ashlyn Whetter, Evan Whetter, Andrew Whetter, Jovi Whetter, twins Kasia and Charlotte Whetter, Ellie Whetter, sister Erma Dale of Vancouver/Edmonton, sister- in law Gertrude Whetter of Winnipeg and brother-in-law Clint Whetter of Brandon.           Smith Funeral Home  204-747-2088                www.wheatlandfs.com
