GARDEN: Edith Littlejohn Garden (nee Paterson) passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, June 19, 2014. Edith was born on February 8, 1943 at Towie, Scotland and grew up on the family farm of Sinnaboth, Scotland. She attended Towie School where she finished at the age of sixteen. Edith married Robert Garden not long after and they emigrated to Canada in August, 1962 after the birth of their first child. In her early years in Brandon while staying at home to raise her family, Edith opened her home to people who required room and board, as well as mental health clients for over thirty years. Outside the home, she worked as a cook at both St. Michael's Academy and the Brandon General Hospital, then as a nurse's aide at the Brandon Mental Health Centre and then ended her career at Rideau Park. Edith loved school and ensured that all of her grandchildren could pursue past secondary education by setting up a scholarship/education fund for each one. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed attending sporting events and hockey tournaments. Her hobbies included knitting, painting crafts, crosswords, Scrabble and her flowers. She was very fond of her many family pets. Edith is survived by her loving husband Bob of 53 years; daughters Angela and Jean (Don); sons Malcolm (Roxanne), Graham (Christie), Allan (Tammy); grandchildren Sheena, Brittany, Devan, Tyler, Tanner, Lindsay, Haley, Dean, Wyatt, Mackenzie, Camryn and Avery; great-grandchildren Hallie and Cohen. She is also survived by sisters Elsie of Scotland and May (Rob) of Brandon; nieces Lynn, Trena and nephews Robert and Ian as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Scotland. Edith was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mary Paterson; sisters Margaret and Jean and brother Charlie, all of Scotland. In keeping with Edith's wishes, a private family celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Edith, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother lost her courageous battle with cancer and would like memorial donations made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Cancer Services, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
