PHILLIPS: Miles Glendinning Phillips. January 21, 1930 - August 2, 2014. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Miles Glendinning Phillips on August 2, 2014 at the Boissevain Health Centre. Miles was born in London, England January 21, 1930 to Colonel George Alexander Phillips and his wife Esther (Lea). His brother Ronald served on the H.M.S. Hood. Miles was educated at the Edinburgh Academy and later completed a degree in agriculture. Miles emigrated to Boissevain in 1952, to work on the farm of Errick F. Willis, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. He embraced numerous occupations prior to becoming the editor of the Boissevain Recorder in 1966. Miles was an active community member through Town Council, Boissevain Morton Foundation, Boissevain Border Kings, Southwest Hockey League, Boissevain Donors Choice, and The Canadian Turtle Derby. He was a charter member of the Boissevain Lions Club in 1957. In 1964-65 he became the youngest District Governor of Lions International District 5M3. In 1966 he married Shirley McCallum. They had three children: Margaret Lea, Rob and Nancy. Max Lake and the cottage were always #1 during the summer. In 2011 he celebrated 50 years at the Island. Thirty-three years as editor earned him the nick name Scoop. He will aslo be remembered as a loyal Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan, a long time Liberal Supporter and a member of the St. Andrews Society. Left to cherish his memory are: his wife Shirley, children Margaret Lea (Paul Conway), Robert (Andrea), Nancy (Lee Richels) as well as grandchildren Cally and Thomas Phillips, Jonathen Richels and Milo Conway Phillips, sister-in-law Lynda (Clifford) Harbin, and family. A celebration of Miles life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Boissevain Legion Hall at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire donations in Miles memory may be made to the Boissevain & Morton Foundation, Box 1075, Boissevain, MB, R0K0E0.
