PHILLIPS: Surrounded by family Robert "Bob" John Phillips passed away at Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at the age of 104. Robert was born on May 31, 1910 in Rapid City, Manitoba. Bob attended Mount Vernon school. He left school to help on the family farm. He farmed north of Forrest and did various jobs until he began working at CFB Rivers, and subsequently CFB Shilo where he received his carpenters designation, and retired at age 65 after 18 years of service. As a young man he attended Glanton Church and later served on the board at Zion Church in Rivers. In later years he attended, and was actively involved in the construction of Bethel Christian Assembly. In retirement Bob was involved in numerous construction and welding projects for friends and neighbours. He enjoyed these projects as it was an opportunity to visit. Bob had a big garden and large raspberry patch, and he shared the fruits of his labour with his family and many friends. Bob is survived by sons Delmer (Carol) of Victoria, Wayne (Marilyn) of Brandon, Gerald (Shawna) of Killarney, sister Rena Cornish of Rapid City and brother John (Margaret) Phillips of Steinbach. Grandchildren Bradley Phillips, Byron (Jodi) Phillips, Tracy (Dan) Masse, Jason (Sarah) Phillips, Stephanie Phillips, Eric Phillips, Amy (Simon) Ryan, and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eva (Burch) in 1963, his parents Jack and Laura (Lobb) Phillips, sisters Mabel and husband Irwin Lang, Pearl and husband Frank Shelvey, brother Gilbert and wife Ruth Phillips, and brother in-law Victor Cornish. The Ceremony to Celebrate Bob’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday (TODAY), September 9th, 2014 at 6:00 pm. Rev. Bruce Nehring will officiate. A private interment will precede the memorial service at Carberry Plains Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Valleyview Personal Care Resident Van Fund, 3015 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 2K2 or to a charity of choice. A very heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Valleyview Care Centre for their wonderful loving care, and for the talks that the staff had with him to make his stay enjoyable.
