WIEBE: On Friday, September 5, 2014, Abe Wiebe, age 87 years, passed peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with his family by his side. Abe was born in Schoendorf, Ukraine on October 15th, 1926 and emigrated to Germany during World War II. While in Germany he met his future bride, Mary. He immigrated to Canada in 1947 at 21 years of age. The terms of his immigration required him to work for 10 months in northern Ontario in forestry. From 1948-1952, he worked in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan on a farm. In 1952, he moved to Manitoba to marry the love of his life, Mary. The remainder of his working career was spent in Brandon, working for Cumming and Dobbie as a heavy equipment operator. Abe is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary, children Henry Wiebe (Margaret), Susan Wardrope and Don Wiebe, grandchildren Ryan, Jessica, Stephen, Curtis, Stacie, Devin and Alexa; family in Germany including sister Anna Janzen (Bernhard) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Katharina and Abram and his brothers Kornelius and Peter. His passions, at which he excelled, included fishing and gardening. He embraced computer technology including photography in his retirement years. He enjoyed his friends, especially coffee with the Burger King “Most Wanted Gang”. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Richmond Park Church, 1525-26th Street, Brandon. Pastor Ken Quiring will officiate. Interment will take place at Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Abe may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, unit 4B-457 9th Street Brandon, Manitoba R7A 1K2.
