CUMMING: Maxine. It is with saddened hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma at Birch Lodge, September 2, 2014 at the age of 86. Maxine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and friend, always placing someone elses needs ahead of her own. Max loved to open her home to all to share her delicious meals, a game of cards and lunch, or just a special time to sit and visit. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always had a special place in her heart. Maxine was born at her home farm in the Scotia district on February 9, 1928. She was the only child of Bill and Jean Lorimer. She completed her schooling in Oakner. She always spoke fondly of her school chums and had a special bond with her cousin Beth Oliver. She loved to spend time outdoors with her Dad and her dog, doing chores and riding horses. After high school Maxine attended Success Business College in Winnipeg and upon her return she boarded with Jack and Eleanor Coombs and worked at the Municipal Office. October 20, 1948 Maxine married Allan Cumming of Kenton. They lived north of Kenton for 5 years and then moved to Maxines home farm after her fathers passing to run the farm. After 30 years of farming Al & Max moved to 8th Street in Hamiota, where they enjoyed their retired life doing the things they loved most; curling, golfing, camping and travelling to special places. Maxine especially loved Hawaii and Scotland. Mom and Dad and their many curling fan friends frequented many Silver Brooms, Scotties & Briers. Mom even went back to the workforce by working in the kitchen at the Hamiota Health Centre. She enjoyed her time there and made many new friends with the staff.Mom always gave back to her community in a big way; she belonged to the Ladies Legion Auxiliary, the UCW, Curling Club, Golf Club, delivered meals on wheels, and volunteered at Birch Lodge with feedings and activities. Her family was extremely proud of her involvement with palliative care which she continued to do until she was almost 80. Her compassion and caring for others was what made our Mom a very special lady. Maxine is predeceased by her loving husband, Allan and her parents, Bill and Jean Lorimer. She leaves to mourn her son Bill (Barb), daughter Vickie (Greg) Short, son Murray (Lori); grandchildren Crystal (Scott) Kasprick, Kyle (Jolene), Erin (Justin) Cornett, Mark, Ashley and Alana Short, and great grandchildren, Sadie, Ava, and Chloe Kasprick; also Sister-in-laws Leila (Bill) Anderson and Sharon (Lyle) Adair and their families. A graveside service was held Saturday, September 6th at the Scotia Cemetery with a reception held at the Hamiota Sports Complex. For those desiring, donations may be made in Maxines memory to Birch Lodge PCH Activity Fund c/o Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota, MB R0M 0T0 or to the Hamiota District Sports Complex Memorial fund, Box 100, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0. The family would like to share a special clipping found amongst their Moms belongings: What Matters: We shall be remembered more for: our kindness than for our accomplishments; our generosity than for our riches; our service than for our successes.
