McDONALD: #15613 Retired RCMP S/Sgt. Donald McDonald, beloved husband of Doreen, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon on Sunday October 12, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Donald was born August 21, 1930 at Teulon, Manitoba, son of retiredRCMP Cpl. Michael Patrick and Daisy McDonald. He joined the RCMP in Winnipeg in 1948 and spent a 27 year career first serving in Ontario at Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, Sault Ste. Marie City Police and Ottawa. He transferred to Saskatchewan in 1959 and served at the detachments of Outlook, Vonda and Hafford. He transferred back to Ottawa in 1967 and then Brandon in 1976, where he retired from the RCMP on September 30, 1979. He then went on to work for another 14 years with Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health in Brandon. Donald was predeceased by his son Steve, sister Joan McDonald and brother Fred McDonald. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Doreen and by four sons: Rtd. RCMP Cpl. Michael (Madonna), Rtd. RCMP Cpl. Patrick (Joanne), Richard (Susan) and William (Lois) as well as seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Donald is also survived by a sister Marie MacDonald, two nieces and a nephew. A Celebration of Donald's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday October 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Barb Jardine officiating. Interment will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 415 1st Street, Brandon, R7A 2W8. Please accept my condolences on the loss of Mr McDonald. I apologize for such a late message, as I've only just found this now. I always knew him to be a great man.
