DENBOW: Carman Fraser Denbow was born in the RM of Sifton on June 18th, 1932, the last of twelve children born to John and Lydia Jane Denbow. He completed school at Deleau, and became a permit teacher in a school near Gilbert Plains. Although he enjoyed the children, Carman secured work for the next eleven years in the freight yards of the Canadian National Railway. This took him to northern Manitoba as well as Brandon where he began taking Grade 12 courses unavailable at Deleau, allowing him to enter the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba. Upon graduation, he practiced at Johnston's Drugs in Brandon, and eventually partnered with Darryl Darling to own the pharmacy. After a fire destroyed their business, Carman worked for several pharmacies in Brandon and Rivers, always serving his customers as if they were friends. He belonged to the Garden Club, the Masons and the Shriners, and enjoyed showing dachshunds with Jim. Travelling, dancing, playing piano, needlepointing, raising poultry, growing flowers and vegetables and most of all spending time with family and friends were all important to Carman. After several sojourns in the hospital, and getting settled into Victoria Landing, Carman passed away on October 15th, 2014 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He is survived by his partner Jim Terhune, brother Ross Denbow, sister-in-law Rita Denbow and aunt Bertha Denbow, many nieces and nephews, cousins and their families. He was predeceased by his partner Jack Smith, his parents John and Jenny Denbow, brothers Alvin, Harold, Scott, Reuben, Lyle, Les, Lloyd and Cleve and sisters Eva Lever and Isabel Boorman and their spouses, nephew Jack Denbow and niece Marlaine Boorman. Funeral services were held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on October 21, 2014 with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Carman may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 8-940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 0P6.
