CHERNISKI: Kathleen Kay Cherniski (née Garvin) of Brandon, beloved mom of Catherine Cathy, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on October 26, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Kathleen was born on December 16, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario to Elvinda and Cecil George Garvin. She was the eldest and the only girl of five children. She married Alexander Cherniski on June 7, 1952 at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church and they welcomed their daughter, Catherine Maria, who was born on June 13, 1953. Kay was blessed with three grandchildren: James, Kelly and Mark and four great grandchildren, all whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her brothers, Terry (Loretta) of Kelowna, BC and David of Brandon. She was predeceased by her brothers, Spence and Donald. During her lifetime, Kay worked as a book keeper for various companies including Christies Office Supplies and Western Janitorial. In her spare time, she enjoyed oil painting and she shared her knowledge by teaching for the Pallet Club at Prairie Oasis for 26 years. Kay was very proud to currently have one her paintings on display at the Parliament Building in Winnipeg. Kay loved wintering in Arizona and she enjoyed early times spent at Moonlake, Manitoba with her family, including her nieces and nephews. Kay touched many lives with her kind heart and quick wit. She will be dearly missed. Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church on October 30, 2014 with Rev. Fr. Mykhalo Khomitskyy as Celebrant, assisted by Cantor Tony Yuriy. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kay may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7 or to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8-940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 0P6.
