COMMON: John "Johnny". With great sadness the family announces that Johnny passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, November 3, 2014. He was born in Bradwardine, Manitoba on September 16, 1928, the fourth child of Wes and Christina (nee McKenzie) and lived there until moving to Rivers in 1972. Johnny married Elaine Graham on December 9, 1950. He was an electrician by trade and worked a short time in the north wiring, as he used to say, "the northern lights", also in Selkirk and finally most of his career at CFB Rivers. As well, he helped out family and friends, something he continued until his stroke seven years go. Johnny loved to go the Graham farm and spend many an evening helping Grandpa Graham. He always had to be busy doing something - just couldn't sit around. He loved all sports whether watching or playing, especially curling and golf. He looked forward to his hunting and fishing trips with his buddies and had many good stories. Johnny was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Rivers Legion. Family was most important and he was so proud of his children and grandchildren, keeping up with their day to day activities, having a "little" advice, or just a good laugh over one of their antics. Johnny is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty-four years Elaine, children Janice (Bruce) Walker, Jo-Anne (Bob) Curry, Graham (Peggy), Duane (Audrey), and Shannon (Roger) Neal, grandchildren Wally (Corinne), Meaghen (Cory), Jonathon (Tiffany), Brady, Wyatt, Kylie, and great-grandchildren Kyle, Rachel, Kaedyn and Landen. He is also survived by a sister Helen Harvey, brother-in-law Jim Wood, sisters-in-law Pat Graham and Sandra (Chuck) Moody as well as many special nieces and nephews. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, sister Marion, brothers Lorne and Murray, son Darrell "Charlie" and infant son Malcolm. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Rivers United Church on Friday, November 7, 2014 with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. A private family interment followed at Ancrum Cemetery. Donations in memory of Johnny may be made to Rivers Royal Canadian Legion Branch #75, Box 37, Rivers, Manitoba, R0K 1X0 or Riverdale Personal Care Home, Box 428, Rivers, Manitoba, R0K 1X0.
