RICE: Ronald Earl Rice of Wawanesa, MB, beloved husband of Noreen, passed away on November 2, 2014 at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre at the age of 77. Ron was born May 27, 1937, on N.W. 1/4 30-6-16 in the R.M. of Strathcona, to Jim and Pearl Rice. He married Noreen (nee Hargreaves) on June 3, 1961, at Shoal Lake, MB. Ron attended school at Lily Hill, and after completing Grade 8, went to work as a farm hand with various farmers in the area. In the late1950’s he started work with the Highways Department as an equipment operator. In 1967 Ron took over his Dad’s farm for five years until 1972 when he returned to the Highways Department until his retirement in 1992. Ron’s interests were hunting, fishing, gardening, feeding birds in the winter, and pistol shooting. He loved to write poetry and would sit quietly and put his thoughts on paper. Ron’s greatest passion was his love of nature and the woods. He cut hundreds of cords of oak and poplar firewood for himself, family, friends and customers. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Noreen, two sons Brian (Cindy), Brent (Wendi), and daughter Karen (John McKinnon), 6 grandchildren, Jenny (Brian Cory), Kaylin, Arianna & Carson, Travis, Tyler, and 1 great grandchild Lillian Cory, as well as a “chosen Grandson” Jeff Pujo. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward and Clark Ron was predeceased by his parents, brother Del Rice, and his sisters-in-law Gwen and Shirley Rice. A Celebration of Ron’s Life was held on Friday, November 7th, 2014 in the Wawanesa United Church with Reverend Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment took place in the Wawanesa Cemetery. Urn bearers were Brian & Brent Rice. Jamieson’s Funeral Services of Glenboro were in care of arrangements.
