ROMANOWSKI: Barbara Romanowski (Bondarenko), October 27, 1920 November 27, 2014, passed away peacefully at her residence, Fairview Home. Barbara was born in Poland and, after surviving captivity during the Second World War, immigrated to Canada in 1948 where she married Alexander Romanowski in 1950. She worked in the kitchen at Brandon General Hospital from 1948 to 1951 prior to moving to Forrest with Alexander where they rented a farm until 1955. They then bought their own farmland in Kemnay, where they stayed until 1980 when they retired and moved to Brandon. She enjoyed her time on the farm and loved tending to her garden. Barbara was a life-long member of the Polish Sokol. Predeceased by her husband, Alexander, one sister and five brothers. Barbara is survived by her son Edward (Anna), daughter Mary Sarkonak (Peter), grandchildren Steven Romanowski (Lisa), Sharon Romanowski, and Christopher Sarkonak, and great-granddaughter Loa Romanowski. Prayers will take place at Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Neufeld as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ed Fikus, Paul Huys, Andrew Krynski, Mike Ksiazek, Edward Romanowski, and Peter Sarkonak.
