KITSON: Marjorie Kitson (née Elliott) died peacefully and without distress on November 27, 2014, at Birchwood Terrace in Kenora. Born January 21, 1923 in Wawanesa, Manitoba, she lived most of her adult life in Kenora, Ontario, and was involved in many community activities, particularly but not only, music. Her sense of self and sense of humour were always apparent, even in her last days of life. With her husband Cliff, she lived a full and varied life, occasionally on travels that were Cliff’s idea and about which she was ambivalent. One example is the “drive yourself through East Germany” trip to a Bach festival in Leipzig, at a time when the police state was in full swing. She came home and joined a political party. At the age of 90 she took herself into town by taxi to see her MP, and expressed her views on cancellation of the Experimental Lakes project. She is survived by her sister Esther Brown of Wawanesa, her son Neil, now living in Vancouver, and four grandchildren (in order of appearance), Frances, Joe, Heather, and Alex, and their mother Hilary Kitson, also of Vancouver. A memorial service will be held in the spring, the date to be announced when decided. Marj planned the service. The family is grateful to the community for all the love and support received. There are many people to thank, but for now we thank the staff at Birchwood Terrace, particularly for their kind and superb palliative care. Memorial gifts would be welcomed at The Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation, Kenora, or Knox United Church “Building Our Vision” fund, also Kenora. Online condolences may be made at brownfuneralhomekenora.comBrown Funeral Home and Cremation Centre entrusted with arrangements.
