BROOKS:Rosalie Rose Emma Brooks (Orchard) beloved wife of Norval passed away peacefully at Birch Personal Care Home in Hamiota on November 26, 2014. Rose was born September 6, 1932 at Miami, Manitoba to Will and Emma Orchard. Rose went to Deerwood, a one-room school til grade 9 and took grade 10 by correspondence. She stayed with her sister Nora and husband Ron and completed her grade 11 at McConnell school. After graduating grade 12 from United College in Winnipeg, Rose attended Normal School and became a teacher. She taught at Niverville and Lenore. On August 12, 1955, Rose married the love of her life, Norval Brooks of Hamiota. They took up farming on the Brooks family farm and the birth of four children followed - Doug, Dennis, Nancy and Warren. Rose spent her life raising and looking after her family. She had a big interest in plants and gardening and always froze and canned the bounty for the winter months. She loved animals and always had cats, a dog, ponies and horses. She was always doing crafts - making quilts for everyone. Rose loved music, playing the organ and reading. Rose, Norval and the family camped and fished every summer. Rose was particularly proud of her master angler pickerel. Rose and Norval traveled to various places in Canada and the US, some of which were Florida, New Brunswick, Palm Springs and Las Vegas, In their later years they could be found every winter at Pines to Palm, Welsaco, Texas. Rose was predeceased by her parents; sisters Alma Dixon and Amy Armstrong; sisters-in-law Muriel Orchard and Marjorie Orchard; brothers-in-law Duncan Stewart, Ron McConnell, Gordon Armstrong and Art Dixon; nephew Duncan Stewart Jr. Rose will be lovingly remembered by her husband Norval Brooks; sons Doug (Donna) Brooks, Dennis (Dianne) Brooks, Warren (Kathy) Brooks and daughter Nancy (Norman) Ward. Grandchildren; Jennifer Brooks, Justin (Becky) Brooks, Jessica (Braeden) Brooks, Karlee (Jordan) Lee, Angela (Ken) Brooks and Taylor Brooks; great grandchildren Jaxen Lee and Grady Brooks; sisters Wilma Stewart and Nora McConnell; brothers Wardie Orchard and Eddy (Catherine) Orchard and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Roses Life was held Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Hamiota United Church with Rev. Doug Martindale officiating. Interment took place at Hamiota Cemetery. Honourary bearers were her grandchildren.
