FOTHERINGHAME: John Simon Fotheringhame of Brandon, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Center on Saturday, December 20, 2014. John was born near Edinburgh, Scotland on July 9, 1944. He was predeceased by his wife Diane in 2013. John is survived by his daughter Maggie of Brandon and sister Mary of Scotland. John studied at Edinburgh University and obtained a degree in physics. He taught high school in Scotland until his immigration to Canada in 1969, at which time he commenced teaching for the Brandon School Division at Neelin High School, which position he maintained until his retirement. He married Diane in 1972, and their only daughter, Maggie was born in 1974. John and Diane enjoyed their country property until health required a move to Victoria Landing in 2010. Throughout his life, John enjoyed music, especially jazz and was a talented pianist, having played with the Brandon Community Orchestra for many years. He was also an avid student of Scottish history and never lost the joy of learning. Cremation has taken place, and a private graveside service will be held.
