GERO: Gracie "Grace" Alien Gero, age 84 years, widow of Charles Gero, passed away peacefully at her residence, Fairview Home on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia on August 5, 1930, daughter of Walter and Dorothy Clyke. Grace was raised in Truro, Nova Scotia with her nineteen brothers and sisters. She received her education at Willow Street School in Truro. She then worked at the Stanley Hotel in Truro, then at the Oromocto Hotel in Oromocto, New Brunswick, the Grand Hotel in Yarmouth Nova Scotia and lastly at the Base Cleaners at C.F.B. Shilo until her retirement. Grace loved gardening, music, music in the park and Westman Jams. She also participated in Line Dancing and was an avid shopper. During her many years at Shilo, she was a member of the Catholic Womens League, a volunteer at the Military Family Resource Centre and was a member of T.O.P.S. Grace married Merle Willis and they had their first child, Merleen. After Merle's death, Grace married Charles Gero and five children were born to them. She is survived by her children; Merleen Willis, Everett "Peter" Gero, Walter (Kim) Gero, Jeff (Karen) Gero, Patricia Gero and John (Melanie) Gero. There are twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Grace also leaves her siblings: Evelyn (Charles) Borden, Geraldine Clyke, Robbie (Cora) Clyke, George (Lynne) Clyke, Shirley (Howard) Mahar, Marion Scott, Kay Morse, Benjamin "Gary" (Viola) Clyke, Richard "Ricky" Clyke, Joseph "Bunny" Clyke, Barbara Clyke, Margie Clyke, Darrell "Buttons" Clyke. Grace was predeceased by her husband Charles, parents, Walter and Dorothy Clyke and siblings: Walter "Jack" Clyke, Freddy Clyke, Vivian "Bubbles" Mingo, John Clyke and Thomas Clyke. The Ceremony of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Shilo Chapel, C.F.B. Shilo on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Celebrant was Fr. Patrick Neufeld. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Urn Bearers were sons: Everett "Peter", Jeff and John Gero.
