ROME: Eva Ida Rome, widow of the late Edward "Buster" Rome and dear mother to Muriel (Glenn) Dudding and Ruth (Don) McLean, passed away at her residence, Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Eva was born on January 6, 1915 at Treesbank, Manitoba. Her early life was spent on her parent's, Charles and Harriet (nee Howard) Smith, farm as her father's helper. Eva took her schooling in Treesbank and Methven, Manitoba. She went to work away from her home at an early age working for several families in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 1934, Eva married Edward "Buster" Rome. They worked together both on the farm and with their real estate company, Rome Realty. Eva was a member of the Nesbitt UCW, the Chesley UCW and the IODE in both Wawanesa and Brandon. She spent many years volunteering at Fairview Personal Care Home and was always a willing worker wherever she was needed. Eva's main interest was her family, especially her grandsons. Baking cinnamon buns and pancakes for them was her specialty. From her large gardens she made delicious meals for family and friends year round. Eva and Buster's home was always open to everyone no matter what the occasion or season may be. Eva and Buster travelled for many winters to Phoenix and Hawaii and by herself to Paris, Hawaii, Northwest Territories and numerous trips to Lloydminster, Alberta to visit and to babysit. Eva is survived by her daughters Muriel (Glenn) Dudding and Ruth (Don) McLean; grandsons Guy (Rochelle) Dudding and Gavyn (Nicole) Dudding; great-grandchildren Jenna, Josh and Kadyn Dudding; four step great grandchildren Tyler Stobbs and Liam, Callum and Lachlan McGinnis. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Irene Smith and Lucy Smith and brother-in-law Erwin "Dave" Davis. Having lived 100 years less two days, Eva had many members of her family predeceased her: husband Edward "Buster" Rome in 1978; sisters and spouses Milly (Charles) Heaman, Grace (Dave) Nicole, Midge (Don) McNish and Ross (Murray) Linner; brothers Charles "Wag" Smith and Henry "Bud" Smith; cousins Roy (Dianna) Deacon and Kelly (Jessie) Deacon; sisters-in-law and their spouses Kathleen (Bert) Larway, Romie (Garnet) Cooper and Edna (Lynne) Dawson; brother-in-law JB (Jenny and Inez) Rome. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel, Brandon on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Rev. Harvey Hurren officiated. Pallbearers were Glenn, Guy, Gavyn and Josh Dudding, Don McLean and friend Alan Hook. The interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery prior to the ceremony. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mrs. Rome to a charity of choice. Eva was a "Classy Lady". Her clothes were always well coloured coordinated right up to six days before her 100th birthday!!! Her sense of humour and common sense will remain with us always. Thank you to each of you for thinking of us. Expressions of sympathy may be made atwww.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
