BURR: William “Bill” Alexander Dec. 5, 1927 - January 19, 2015. Bill passed away at the Minnedosa hospital in his 87th year.He was born in Rapid City to Alexander and Agnes Burr. He grew up on the farm with his 3 siblings. At the age of 14 he left school to help run the family farm after his father became ill. He took over the farm after his Father’s death when he was 17. In 1957 he married Elva Lillian Hartley from Brandon. Through the winter months Bill drove truck for Samples Transfer in Rapid City. They remained on the family farm until 1975 when they moved into Rapid City. While continuing to run the family farm, Bill also drove the school bus for many years. He retired in 1981 due to health issues. He was a member of the IOOF, Legion, and Masonic Lodge and also enjoyed curling. Bill’s grandchildren were a very big part of his life and he loved attending all of their activities and was very proud of their accomplishments. Bill enjoyed spending time at Sandy Lake with family and numerous friends over the years. He also enjoyed his daily trips to the coffee shop where he kept up with the latest news and shared many laughs with friends. Bill remained in his own home right until the last few weeks of his life and kept his wonderful sense of humour right to the end. He passed away peacefully with his children and grandchildren surrounding him with love. Bill will be remembered by his daughter Laura (Bob), son Alex (Richele); grandchildren Michael (Micaela), Courtney (Scott), Alyssa (Shea), Ben, Jadyn, Sarah, Brody and Carson, brother Peter (Mary), sister Helen, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was predeceased by his wife Elva, parents Alex and Agnes, and sister Margaret. A celebration of Bill’s life was held at the Rapid City United Church on Jan. 23, 2015 with Barb Jardine officiating.
