MARSHALL: Terry Marshall was born April 20, 1950 in Virden to Irene & Angus Marshall. He passed away on January 6, 2015 in his home of a massive heart attack. Terry (aka Joe Bush) was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He grew up with 2 younger brothers, Barry (Virden, MB) & Randy (Red Deer, AB) in Virden where his love of horses first began and continued until the end. Many hours were spent in the saddle with friends or in the winter on the ice with a hockey stick. Terry- “The Cowboy” started a hockey career in Virden, he continued it to Brandon when scouted by the Wheat Kings as a defenseman and wing for 4 years and then in the 7th round was drafted to St. Louis. He spent the 70’s in various leagues ending his professional career in the Eastern league in Jersey. During his time with the Syracuse Blazers he was excited to have the opportunity to be in the all-time favorite movie Slap Shot starring Paul Newman. He finished his hockey career in Manitoba playing with the Russell Rams, Neepawa Natives and Rapid City Old Timers. Terry was blessed to have 3 daughters Kelly-Jo, Lacey & Jerri-Lynn. He instilled his love of horses, rodeo, competition and dedication into them. They were going down the rodeo trail before they were out of diapers and are now actively involved in a variety of associations and like their father are a force to be reckoned with in the arena. They could also be seen driving the teams helping out their Dad.Terry was actively involved in the Heartland Rodeo Association and the Manitoba Team Roping Assoc.. He was often on the road to the “Lake” for his “therapy session” with Lenny. Not much couldn’t be worked out from the back of a horse swinging a rope. He was a well known pickup man for the CCA / MRCA / HRA / MHSR associations. Something he was proud to do and was always willing to share his knowledge. He never had a “job”, how do you call it a job when you love what you do! He was always busy doing something, be it checking cattle for brands, custom roping, the PFRA, picking up – it usually involved cows and horses. Terry is survived by his daughters Kelly-Jo Marshall (Ollie Turel & grandchildren Emma-Dee Marshall, Kaedyn, Karson, Kalli, Koltyn Turel) (Melville, SK); Lacey Marshall (Derek Glenn)(Strathclair, MB) Jerri-Lynn Marshall (Kirk Thompson) (Brandon, MB); (Mother) Irene Marshall (Virden, MB); Brother Barry Marshall and nephew Justin Marshall (Virden) Brother Randy Marshall (Red Deer, AB) and nieces Ashley and Jodi and families, many friends & of course Buddy his ever faithful traveling companion. He was predeceased by his father Angus Marshall in July 1984 and son Dane Marshall in November 1990. A celebration of Terry’s life was held at the Brandon Victoria Inn on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Bring your Hat’s / Boots / Stories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heartland Rodeo Assoc. An ongoing memorial award will be determined in his honor. Terry’s dream was to keep the association a place for “families” to rodeo. Grandparents competing with their grandchildren, a place for the young to start and the old to finish. Cremation has taken place. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
