JACKSON: Dr. Patrick Cecil Jackson (August 31, 1948 - February 22, 2015). Born in Chicago IL and brought up in Dauphin MB, Patrick obtained a diploma in psychiatric nursing in 1971 from the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie, MB. He then graduated from Brandon University, Brandon, MB with two undergraduate degrees in 1974. Six years later, he defended his Ph.D. in Developmental Neurobiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. He also was a faculty member at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, ON for several years. Patrick then returned to Brandon where he became a Brandon University faculty member in Biology in 2004, and chaired the Zoology Department in 2006. He taught all undergraduate levels and served on a number of BU committees including the Senate Executive, Senate Research, Curriculum and Academic Planning and Animal Care. In addition, Dr. Jackson lent his expertise to counselling students, particularly in the biomedical fields. He was predeceased by his parents, Rosco James Jackson in 1990 and Helen Susie Jackson in 2009 and his brother Jim in 2013. He is survived by his two sons, Jackson Parker of Calgary, AB and Robert Jackson of Surrey, BC, as well as sisters Barbara-Jean Jackson and Deborah Petrie of Brandon and Karen Bowman of Gimli and their families, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Donations in Patrick's memory may be made to a charity of choice. A public memorial service is planned for a later date. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of A3 Palliative Care Unit, Brandon Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care during his illness.
