HAMILTON: It is with deep regret, we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Eugene Hamilton, on February 23, 2015 following a very brief illness at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Stan, only son of Freda and Jim Hamilton was born June 8, 1927 in Carnduff, SK. As a young boy he attended the rural elementary Wheatland School and later attended High School in Carnduff where he graduated. Following graduation, he bought farmland and began farming with his father. During the winters, Stan worked away from home on the railway mail car, as well as attending different agricultural courses at Saskatoon. It was during his years in Saskatoon that he met Lillian Arnott, a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and they were married on December 27, 1958. Following their marriage, Stan and Lillian moved onto his parents farm where they worked together in a mixed farming operation. Stan was very fond of the cattle and enjoyed working with them. He served as a member of the Carnduff Wheat Pool Committee and was a member of the Saskatchewan Seed Growers Association. He also served as a member of the Wheatland United Church Board. Stan and Lillian were delighted in June of 1964 when their chosen daughter Leah, made their family complete. Leah, from a small child was close to her Dad and Stan encouraged and supported her as she grew, no matter what her interests. Leah left home to further her education and in 1988 married Gordon Link. The cattle were sold and they semi-retired but they continued to operate the grain farm until 1988. They sold their farmland and remained on the home acreage until fully retiring in 1989. They moved to Brandon, Manitoba where Stan finally found the time to take up bowling (5 and 10 pin), golf, attending hockey games and some local traveling. Stan, always the farmer at heart, enjoyed his yard and a small garden as well as regular trips to the country in spring and fall for crop inspections. In 1990 Stan and Lillian welcomed their first grandson Justin and in 1994 their second grandson Mark. Since Leah and Gordon lived nearby, Stan was able to be a very proud Grandpa Ham. They were always at the boys concerts, music recitals, soccer and bowling games and took an interest in all of their activities. Grandpa had great confidence that they were growing into fine young men. Stan enjoyed a productive, very healthy life until just the last month. Stan and Lillian shared 56 years together and were completely devoted to each other. Stan is survived by his loving wife Lillian, Daughter Leah and husband Gordon Link, Grandsons Justin (Emma Simmons) and Mark Link as well as numerous extend family members and many special friends. Stan was predeceased by his parents Jim (1964) and Freda (1974) and In-laws Merlin (1966) and Verlie (2003) Arnott. A Celebration of Stans Life was held at Memories Chapel on March 2, 2015 with Rev. Wayne Sanderson officiating. A private, family interment will take place at Carnduff Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to a Charity of Choice in memory of Stan. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel &Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
