CLISBY: Linda Ruth Isabel Clisby (nee Skinner) October 18, 1955 March 14, 2015. As the sun was rising in the east, Lindas spirit settled in the west and joined those loved ones who had passed before her. She left this world as she lived it graciously, privately, and courageously. Linda was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. We are forever grateful for the time we had with her, a special person who embraced everyone she met with kindness, respect, and an openness of heart. She brought joy and laughter to every occasion with a sharp wit and an outlook on life that made you want to be near her. Those of us who loved and cherished Linda grieve her loss and celebrate the gift of her life to us. Linda is loved profoundly and mourned deeply by her husband Don and their son Frank and daughter-in-law Dee. As well, Linda is mourned by the Skinner family, her Mother Margaret, and her brothers Frank (Lorraine), Don, and numerous nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by her brother Michael (1969) and father Wendell (2001). Linda and Don were married in 1974 and they spent 40 years together sharing good times and bad, but always being best friends and strong supports to each other. Dons devotion to Linda has never been as evident as these past few months as he walked along beside her in this difficult journey. Lindas bravery and stoicism through this journey are admired by her many friends and it is evident that she gained this strength of character from her Mom who was with her every step of the way. Linda had a few passions for family, friends, golf, cooking, and a love of animals. First and foremost to Linda was family. In loving her family deeply, Lindas major priority was to create a safe, secure and nurturing environment. One of her greatest joys was in bringing the family together and serving her famous roast beef dinners with Yorkshire pudding. It was during these times when she felt the most content, surrounded by the people she loved with all her heart. For Linda, the table was the gathering place, the source of nourishment, festivity, safety and satisfaction. It was where she could combine her love for family and cooking into one happy event. Lindas passion for animals was developed in her early years of growing up on the farm in Alexander. She loved dogs and owned many throughout her lifetime including Jude, Suzie, and now Jessie. As well she was overjoyed when Frank and Dee introduced her to her grand-dogs Nashville and Benny, and she realized they are carrying on the same passion for animals as she. In Lindas younger years she and Don liked to ski in the mountains and spend time at the cabin at Pelican Lake. She would entertain us with the many stories of her and Rosannas antics. Laughter and Linda were synonymous. Her home was the gathering place in the neighborhood and adults and children would travel across the city on Halloween to collect one of her famous popcorn balls. Long after the children were too old to go out for Halloween, these now adult children and their parents still showed up on Halloween to get her special treat! Linda always looked forward to these visits and opened her home to everyone. Golf and friendships went hand in hand. Linda developed many life-long friends when she was part of the ladies Happy Corkers golf league. These friends and the others that she developed along the way always felt special in her presence. While she took her golf seriously, Linda was always willing, when asked, to provide helpful advice to her partner to help them improve. She took great pride in the fact that son Frank had coached her in golf. Linda was a sought after golf partner and a great golf buddy. Lindas favorite saying was it will be a life changing experience. Go softly dear Linda and know that you have made our time here life changing. We loved you. May our hearts be filled with Lindas laughter and warm smile and bring tears of happiness in having known her. In accordance with Lindas wishes, there will be no service, however, her ashes will be spread in her favorite places in the fall. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Brandon Humane Society.
