STECKLER: Jane Darlene Steckler (Hamilton) passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home in Atlanta, Georgia on March 22, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jane was born November 26, 1946 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada to Robert and Beryl Hamilton. She grew up with her brother Bob in Brandon, graduating from Harrison High School where she was active in many sports. She spent magical summers at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park throughout her youth. She moved to the United States to attend the University of North Dakota, becoming a physical education teacher and coach upon receiving her bachelors degree. She lived the last 32 years in Marietta, Georgia where she built a strong network of friends and adopted family. While she only had one biological child, she was considered a second mom to many and had a great impact on the lives of dozens of young people. She was successful in her professional life as a sales manager in the staffing industry for many years. Jane was an avid reader, a lover of all sports, a devoted Auburn fan, and an amazing cook. She loved spending time near (and on) the water, and was a frequent adventurer with her two grandsons. Family was the greatest joy in Janes life. She was proceeded by her parents Robert and Beryl Hamilton; and brother, Bob Hamilton. She is survived by her daughter, Jana Steckler Kovac, son- in-law, John Kovac and two grandsons, Colin and Parker Kovac of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as three nephews, Blake, Joel, and Gareth Hamilton, and sister-in-law, Joy Hamilton of Brandon, Manitoba. The celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, March 26, 2015 at The Marietta Educational Garden Center in Marietta, Georgia. She will be laid to rest in Canada this summer. Jane had great compassion for young people battling cancer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Saint Judes Childrens Hospital.

In late 1970s, Jane was a close friend and neighbor with Larry and Melanie Laurendine. I've missed many years of that friendship. Also with her daughter. - Posted by: Melanie Laurendine (Friend while in Houston) on: Jul 12, 2025
