OLMSTEAD: We said our final good-bye to our mother Joan Margaret McDonald Olmstead on Thursday March 26th, 2015. Born June 11, 1933, Mom was predeceased by her husband Allan Olmstead (1970) and her brother Morley McDonald (1980). She is survived by her children Audrey, Robert (Bob), and Bruce, together with their spouses, children, grandchildren; five nieces and their families, and both McDonald and McRae cousins. Mom was a woman of courage and independence who deeply valued family and education. Following her graduation from Brandon General Hospital in 1954, she manifested her broader values as a registered nurse in both the Carberry and later in the Neepawa communities. She was caring and compassionate and devoted much of her professional life to advocating for the elderly and the dying. We as a family were able to share her joy of gardening, dogs, music, and sports which greatly enhanced our times together in the latter years. She enriched our lives in endless ways, and we were blessed to have her as our mother. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place later this spring in the Carberry Cemetery. Mom would have appreciated donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 in her memory.
