STANLEY: James Ernest (Ernie) July 7, 1926 - April 16, 2015. Peacefully, with his niece Dianne and Garry Little at his side, Ernie passed away at his residence, Fairview Home, at the age of 87 years. Ernie had been a resident of Fairview Home for 19 years which he enjoyed thoroughly. He was dearly loved by all the second floor staff. All the nurses were his “sweeties” or “darlings.” In his younger years, living only three blocks from the Brandon Fire Station on Princess Avenue, is where he spent much of his time. He even got to ride in the fire truck with Duchess the Dalmatian dog in parades, which was a real thrill for him. He cut grass for neighbors and shoveled snow for many businesses along Princess and Rosser Avenue and at Champs Chicken on Fifth Street - he loved that chicken. If Ernie could have been anything - it would have been a fireman, policeman or a cowboy just like Roy Rogers, he loved western movies. Ernie was better known as the “Sheriff” with his own badge. He loved to collect different pins, badges and patches, he was so proud of them all. He always carried a little note book and everyone had to write in it. He would always ask you to sign his book. Ernie attended the Salvation Army for many years and never wanted to miss church on Sundays. He will be sadly missed by his great niece Bonnie-Lynn Randall and her family, who took him out for coffee and ice cream and spent many hours with him during this difficult time. Ernie is survived by his sister Evelyn Webber of Brandon and her family - Dianne (Garry) Little and their family, Bryan (Tracy) Webber and their family. Brother John Stanley of Calgary, AB, and sisters-in-law Ann Stanley of Trail, BC and Joyce Stanley of Brandon. He is also survived by Ollie's daughter Myrna (Wayne) Johnson and family of Calgary, Bert's family Al (Kim), Sandra (Bob) and family of Trail, B.C., Russell's family Ted, Elaine (Gaye Hannay) of Brandon and Jerry (Roberta) of BC and their families, Vivian's son Rob Adams of Rapid City and his family, Gerald's boys, Doug and June of Brandon, Don of Dauphin, and Wayne (Sharon) of Langley, BC and their families. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Jennie, brothers Ollie (Emma) of Calgary, AB, Bert of Trail, BC, Russell (Helen) and Gerald, sister Vivian (Buster) Adams, brother-in-law Jack Webber of Brandon and sister-in-law, Sylvia of Calgary, AB. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairview Home, especially on the second floor, for the wonderful care Ernie received. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332-8th Street, on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Fairview Home, 1351-13th Street, at 2:00 p.m. with Kim Lewarne officiating. Donations in memory of Ernie may be made to Fairview Home Foundation, 1351-13th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4S6. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
