PHILLIPS: It is with great sorrow that the family of Donald Gregory Phillips announces his sudden and unexpected passing on the 14th day of April, 2015.Don was born in Brandon, Manitoba, on the 16th day of April 1953, to Gordon and Agnes Phillips. He spent virtually his whole life in Brandon, Manitoba. After graduating from Brandon University, Don purchased and ran Candlewood Books until his retirement. All his customers benefitted from his encyclopaedic knowledge of books and literature. Don had many close friends with whom he enjoyed long and often heated discussions over cups of strong coffee. If anyone disputed one of his "left wing" views they had to be prepared, because Don had all the facts and figures at his fingertips. Don was predeceased by his Father, Gordon Albert Phillips, his Mother, Agnes Phillips and his Stepmother, Dawna Phillips, (née Kelleher). Don is survived by his Brothers, Lawrence Gordon Phillips of Fort Frances, Ontario, Dr. Brian Phillips and wife Dr. Elizabeth Phillips of Sussex, New Brunswick, along with their children Dr. Joseph Phillips, Patrick Phillips, Colin Phillips, Michael Phillips and Mary Kate Phillips, and his special cousin Elizabeth Brand and her family of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by the members of his second family, the Kelleher clan. Don will be distinctly missed by his beloved dog, Brennan. Pallbearers will be his nephews and niece. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Don would have preferred that friends make donations to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6, St. Augustine's Church, 327-4th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3H1 or a charity of choice.Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
