STEELE: It is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to Carol Ann Steele. Carol passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon after a courageous six month battle with cancer. She will be especially missed by her loving husband Greg and her three sons Curtis (Merle), Brendan (Crystal) and Glenn (Nicole) and her precious grandchildren Cooper, Madeline, Maya and Avery. She is also survived by her parents Dorothy and Willard Lougheed and her sister Vicky, husband Will, and daughters Meagan and Sarah. She will also be sadly missed by Gregs parents Betty and Bill Steele as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. Carol left us to join her devoted grandparents, including Frank and Lily Curtis who deeply loved their first granddaughter. Carol will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her willingness to help, her quiet sense of humor and her love for the lake. Carol was born on March 20, 1956 in Emo, Ontario. She grew up in Sioux Narrows on Lake of the Woods. Carol cherished her childhood memories swimming and boating with family and friends. She was involved in the Lake of the Woods Chapel and the Sioux Narrows Curling Club. Always a willing helper Carol never hesitated to swing a hammer alongside her dad when he was in need. She attended high school in Kenora and went on to the University of Manitoba where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. It was at the University where Carol found her career working in the Campus Library. From the university library she moved on to work at the Brandon City Library, the Agriculture Canada Library and finally Brandon University. While attending University of Manitoba Carol met and fell in love with her husband Greg. They were married February 14th, 1976 and had just celebrated 39 years of marriage. Carol treasured every moment with her family. She and Greg believed the best job they ever had was being grandparents. Carol created a warm and welcoming home for the entire family. She was known for her incredible baking especially during holidays and family get-togethers. Even those far away would welcome Carols special care package of gingersnaps and tiger bark. Carol was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority during her time in Brandon. She took an active role and served in many capacities over the years. For that she was rewarded with a group of sisters who cared and supported her providing endless hours of laughter and memories. Our family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses for their care at the Brandon Hospital. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at The Bethel Christian Assembly on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carols memory may be made to a library of your choice, including Brandon University (details forthcoming), or a charity of your choice.
