HAYNES: Harriet May Haynes was born in Medora, Manitoba on May 9, 1917 and was the second youngest of six children born to Herbert and Kate Fallas. Harriet, a recent resident of Fairview Home, passed away last year on August 2, 2014, at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 27 days. Harriet spent her early years in Medora but her father's employment with the CPR had them moving to Killarney, Broomhill, and Baring, Saskatchewan before moving back to Medora where she completed high school. She started nurses training but had to give it up when she came in contact with TB and spent a year recovering. She then moved to Brandon where she did home nursing for elderly patients. Harriet lived all of her adult life in Brandon. Her best friend and husband, Clarence Haynes, predeceased her in July of 2003. They would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on April 3, 2015. They enjoyed travel and visited all parts of Europe, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and all of Canada. Harriet outlived all of her siblings and most of her nieces and nephews. She also outlived all of her many friends from her 70 years as a member of Knox United Church in Brandon and many of her work friends from her years at the Brandon Clinic. In the last few years of her life, Harriet would often say, “There is no one left I can say to, do you remember when?” She is survived by: son James of Toronto, grandsons Jeremy, presently doing his PHD at McMaster University, and Jordan, finishing his BA in film studies at Laurier University in Waterloo. Also survived by son Robert and his wife Brenda Kingdon of St. Augustine, Florida and granddaughter, Sara Haynes, attending graduate school in Denver, Colorado. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Greta Graham. There will be a graveside ceremony at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate Harriet’s life, her friendship, kindness, and sense of humor. And most of all, to celebrate the love we all felt for her and the positive effect she had on everyone she met. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com
