ROBERTS: Basil William "Bill" Roberts passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 28, 2014 after a year long struggle with lung cancer. Born in Toronto, Ontario on May 16, 1929, Basil grew up in Brandon, and although he lived in Saskatchewan at some points, he always returned home to Brandon. Bill loved his Sunday drives with Jessie and in earlier years enjoyed fishing. He also loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays ball games! Bill worked for Scott National Drink Co., Northwest Beverages, Modern Dairies, and after retiring went on to work at the YMCA for six more years. He always worked hard and instilled those values in his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much. He loved to drive, and Grandpa would always be available to drive any and all wherever they needed to go. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Gail Louise Hersey in 2008, parents Paulene and Anthony, brothers Peter, Michael, John and sisters Kathleen, Mary, and Olga (Blondie). He leaves his loving wife Jessie of almost 65 years, daughters Judy (Dale) Elder, Joan (Lorne) Roberts, and son Bill (Tracey) Roberts; grandchildren Lisa, Brett, Kara, Breanna and their families, son-in-law Brian Hersey, as well as sisters Tillie Grant and Anne (Ed) Sherban, and numerous nephews and nieces. At Bill's request, no formal service was held and interment will take place at a future date. Thank you to Memories Chapel who took care of our family during this time. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Cancer Services, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
