MUNDELL: Evangeline(Eva) Marie Mundell passed away peacefully on June 21st at Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon at the age of 100 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda (Allan) Mathison and their family Alana (Duane) Kent, Kara and Rylan, Charla (Duncan) Murray, Sydney and Cale, and Nancy (Trevor) Toews, Aiden, Ryder, Theron, and Truett; daughter Bonnie (Don) Coombs and their family Tory (Adria) Coombs, Fletcher, Theo and Molleigh, Tamara Coombs and Thatcher, and Davilyn (Travis) Cairns, Cole and Katelyn; and neice Marlene Tucker. Eva was predeceased by her husband Charlie, her parents Angus and Jeanette McBain, brothers Hadden (Muriel), Boyd (Mabel), Ranald, and Chester, sister Laura (Henry) Nordin, nephews Ernie and Alvin McBain, and nieces Diane Eraker, and Betty Kobylka. Eva formerly of Hamiota was born on the farm at the north end of Salt Lake in the RM of Strathclair on January 5, 1915. She was the youngest of six children of Angus and Jeanette McBain. She took her early schooling in Strathclair and the family moved to Shoal Lake for her high school. She went to Normal School in Winnipeg to become a teacher in 1936-37, and started teaching the following year. Some of the early schools she taught at were Lidford, Lakelet, Erickson and Roseneath where she met Charlie at a dance. They were married on November 12, 1945. They farmed in the Moline district until 1957 and it was here that Linda and Bonnie were born. Then they moved to McConnell where Eva became the Principal of the school and Charlie went to work for the CNR. When McConnell high school closed, she taught at Strathclair followed later by Rivers and Miniota, retiring after 28 years of teaching. Education was a life long passion for Eva as she always took an active interest in the schooling of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed quizzing everyone on the Test Your IQ Question from the local radio station. She continued to live in their home in Hamiota after Charlie died in 1989, until she moved to Riverheights Terrace in Brandon in 2001 and to Fairview in 2007. During her retirement Eva enjoyed volunteering, doing crosswords, playing bridge, following her familys activities, and listening to the Wheat King games on the radio. She walked in the Terry Fox Walk every year for over twenty years. Eva loved to travel and she and Charlie visited many U.S. States including Alaska, travelled all across Canada and toured Scotland and England. After Charlie passed away she was able to take a trip to both Belize and Hawaii accompanied by her friends. Eva had an excellent memory even recalling at age 100 when she met Rev. Stade, that his father had preached at Strathclair as a travelling minister when she was a young girl. Family birthdays and annual holidays were important to Eva. A celebration of Eva's life was held at the First Baptist Church in Brandon on June 26, 2015 with Rev. Paul Stade officiating. A family internment preceded the service in Rapid City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers for those so desiring, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248, Stn Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, 2323 Yonge St. Suite 800, Toronto, ON, M4P 2C9. Campbell Funeral Home of Hamiota was in care of arrangements. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all of the caring staff on second floor of Fairview Home the compassion, patience and care that their Mom received while a resident there.
