SHARPE: On June 4, 2015, in Calgary, Alberta at the South Health Campus (hospital), Phyllis May Sharpe (nee Shannon) died at the age of 95 years. She was in the company of her daughter Jill, who brought her much comfort and company over the last six years. Phyllis is survived by Jill of Calgary, Paul of Kemptville, Ontario and Ian of Smithers, B.C. Ian and Paul visited Phyllis in Calgary whenever they could. Jill’s son, Colin, his wife Christine and their 3 year old sons, Callum and Hayden were also frequent visitors. Jill, Paul, Colin and family gathered at a place where they frequently took Phyllis, Carburn Park, along the Bow River, to remember Phyllis on Sunday, June 7. Phyllis was cremated and her ashes will be taken to Brandon, to be interred with those of her husband Victor in the Sharpe family plot. Originally from Barrie, Ontario, Phyllis became a public health nurse, worked in Toronto, then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served at Trenton and Rockcliff air bases in 1944-1945. She met her husband Victor Sharpe, of Brandon, when he was stationed with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps at Camp Borden, near Barrie. They married in 1947 and lived in Brandon from then until Victor’s death in 2009. In Brandon, Phyllis was active with the Women’s Music Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Brandon Ski Club, Glenorky Ski Valley, Inc., and municipal recycling efforts.
