DYER: It is with sad hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Leslie Malcolm Dyer on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care Unit in Brandon, MB. Les was born on February 20, 1926 on the farm in the RM of Daly and lived there until moving to Brandon in the fall of 2011. Les is survived by his wife of 65 years, Flora (Ironside), his children; Richard (Bev), Cheryl (Andre Vigier), Ian (Lorrie), seven grandchildren; Carrie (Chris Schepp), Scott (Melissa Martin), Tanis ( Jason Laing), Tavis (Tahnea Battle), Dylan (Leiah), Danielle (Jeremy Laferriere), Taryn (Cam Claeys) and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Nora (Lamb) and his brother Lou. Les grew up on the family farm and after graduating from the University of Manitoba, took up farming with his parents. When he and Flora married in 1949 they continued farming, establishing their farm on SW 13-12-22 in the RM of Daly. After retiring from farming, Les worked for Manitoba Crop Insurance for 10 years and spent winters with Flora in their winter home in Arizona. Throughout retirement they traveled across Canada and the United States, some on their own but also on various bus tours. Les spent a great deal of time involved in community service from managing hockey teams to serving on boards for the hospital, municipality, agriculture society, and the Rolling River School Division. He had many interests including aviation and spent many hours building and flying model airplanes. He loved working with wood and built the family home in 1954 and then all of the buildings on their farm. In later years he spent much of his spare time in his workshop doing intarsia and wood carving for which he was best known. Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be in the Rivers Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Donations in memory of Les may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
