Art was born in Rapid City on February 25th, 1930, where he grew up and received his education. He held various jobs, until he joined the navy in 1954 until 1959. After a brief stint in business with brother Claire, he went trucking with C.P. Transport. In 1964, he married Gladys Coutts of St. Boniface, and they moved to Brandon until 1968 when they moved to Rapid City to go into business with brother Murray. A year later they sold the business and Art went to work for Cargill Grain, and they moved to Ingelow where they lived for a year and a half, when Arts love of the open road called and he went to work for Pauls Hauling and they moved back to Rapid City. In 1976, they bought the convenience store and were in business there for the next ten years. During that time, Art also ran a school bus and had a rural mail route. Early in their marriage, Art was introduced to camping, and it became their favourite summer pastime, up at Clear Lake with family and friends, or on the open road. Art enjoyed golfing in the summer and curling in the winter. Art was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #18, and the Masonic Lodge. He served on Council and volunteered in many ways around the community. During his time in the navy, Art travelled across Canada by train many times, and it was always his wish to take one more trip, so last summer they journeyed by Amtrak to Texas, to see Sydney graduate from high school. Since retirement, Art and Gladys spent many hours at the Senior Centre, enjoying the various games. They participated in M.S.O.S. games and even went to the Canadian Senior Games in Medicine Hat. Art also enjoyed his many afternoons having coffee at the Queens and participating in the conversations there.
