SMITH: The family is sadden to announce the passing of their brother, uncle, and cousin Clayton Smith on Tuesday September 29, 2015. He was born February 12, 1923 in Wawanesa MB, the third son of Reuben and Annie Smith. He was pre-deceased by his two older brothers, Jack on October 13, 1988 and Clifford October 19, 2008. He leaves to mourn two sisters, Kathleen Demond of Brandon, and Muriel (Bill) Abbot of Saskatoon, and sister-in law Dorothy Smith of Vancouver, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Clayton's whole life was spent on the farm looking after his prize Clydesdales and Percherons , his cattle, and many pigs that he raised and sold. He graduated from working the land with four horse teams to heavy tractors in the late 1950’s. Some of his favorite entertainment was attending the summer and winter fairs in Brandon and the Austin Reunion. He also enjoyed attending /farm auctions with Denny Cory or Mike Fisher. Something else he enjoyed was our picnics at the river until the farm was sold. Following the death of his mother in 1982 his sister would go out to the farm every second weekend to do laundry, house cleaning, and other tasks to help him. Following the death of brother Jack, he was left alone on the farm and he eventually moved into town in April 2002 following the sale of the farm in November 2001. When he was no longer able to live alone due to health problems, he moved into the personal care home in Wawanesa where he had lots of care and good meals. A private family graveside service took place on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 in the Methven Cemetery with Shirley McBurney officiating. God bless him and may he rest in peace. On line condolences can be made by visiting www.willmorchapel.com. Jamieson’s Funeral Services of Glenboro in care of arrangements. 1-204-827-2480.
